I'm almost done with it, thanks to a few of you here that helped me when I needed it. I've got my son a HH Scout on the way this week and mine will either be a Blackbird or Dangerbird (not sure which just yet). But since I couldnt wait that long I decided to build one for the yard that me and the wife could lay in.
Here's the trees I'm going to use (there actually about a foot into my neighbors yard but they shouldnt mind LOL)
Material ready to go, heavy outdoor cotton materal. Got this at Hobby Lobby for about $35/3 yards
Hemming the material on the pool table.
After sewing everything up I installed grommets. Well, that actually didnt work out so well as they started to pull out of the fabric as soon as there was any type of load on them.
Here was my first attemp to run the rope I had laying around. That didnt work either as it was too big for all of it to go on one ring, so I thought about 2 rings each side (nope, that didnt work either).
Here I removed all original grommets and made two strips of 3/16 x 1" wide aluminum and drilled 3/8" holes to match what was already there. Then started inserting new grommets, here they are just cosmetic as the aluminum takes all the load.
Here you can see the aluminum thru the holes.
Another pic of the aluminum strip
Here it is installed and all the grommets installed again.
Here is my new rope (clothes line rope from walmart $6/100' - needed two)
took me about 15 minutes to tie all that up, found the instructions on the intraweb.
Here I got a 1"x1" piece of pine, marked and drilled my holes (painted clear lacquer) and started installing the rope.
Cant find the link I used now or even remember the name of this pattern but it def came out better with this type of rope on one welded ring (from Ace Hardware $2.50/ea)
Thats all I have for now. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to finish it up and get to lay in it.
