I've made a few hammocks and have ended up with the most comfortable length varying widely as a percentage of the hammock length, but always in the 80 something percent range. Note that the hammocks I've made vary also in length and width and material type. I think all these factors blend to determine the optimum ridgeline length as a percentage of the hammock length. Material even seems to affect it because some fabrics are really stretchy and some have almost no stretch.

I used to use the 85% ridgeline length and then Sgt. Rock mentioned that he started using a 93% ridgeline - I tried it and it really was more comfortable. I redid all my ridgelines to that length. MAD777 is right that fabric stretch has a lot to do with it. You could just make an adjustable ridgeline and then get the length just right.

Agree with both above responses - depends on the hammock. Each of mine is different, but I'm (personally) more comfortable right around 90%
I'm a big wide guy and I like more sag so I use around 83%. For the lounging hammocks I don't bother with a SRL. I just set it up with lots of sag and it comfy for the various postions I lounge in.

If you are referencing a tarp ridgeline length I tend to use about 30-35 feet for a continuous line with dutch hook and flyz most of the time.
If it is hammock ridgeline, I tend to fluctuate between 80-83 to 90% (all dependent on hammock and material) but that has worked for me.
