    Toggles. What do you use?

For your hammock suspension (marlin spike hitch?) Do you bring your own toggles? Commercial stuff? Tent stakes?

Many people use sticks they find laying on the ground. The price is right and they are literally weightless in your backpack.

Recently Olddog spoiled me by giving me some he made out of large knitting needles. I think he got 3 toggles from each needle and they cost only a couple of bucks or so, each. After cutting them with a hacksaw, he filed off the burrs. You can also get them in any color.

A broken carbon arrow I use for hunting, I took it and cut it in 3" pieces made 3 sets of toggles.

I've used biners big and small (great for ensuring that the whoopie does not slip), aluminum toggles from AHE, camp sticks. Tend t use Dutchware nearly all the time now though.

Dutch buckles now, but i used to use a couple chunks of dowel rod i had laying around from my throwing hawk handles. A little big in diameter, but they are already seasoned and surprisingly super light.

Another was my extra aluminum tent stake, blackbird takes 2, tarp takes 4, i would carry 6 and use 2 for toggles. If'n i flung one through the woods (like a strong wind grabs the tarp or i tripped over a guyline after too much fire water at the campfire) i would just tie a water knot and pull a "toggle" stake.

    Toggles

Some small black anodized aluminum tubing. Larger in diameter than the arrow shaft or knitting needle but still very light. I add a loop of reflective cord in each one so they don't vanish (actually they're tied into my whoopies instead of a bead). Works great. Here's a thread where I was sending out freebies. I still have plenty of material left.
