    It finally happened..

So I was trying out the hammock chair in my basement. Just a single gathered end hammock I plan on using for day hiking. I strung it up .. eased into it and and and BAM! I was on the floor lol it happened so freakin fast. I'm not sure what went wrong. The whipping slid strait off. I think it may have been the line I used to whip it with. It was cheap blue line from REI I think it was the 50lbs stuff . Thing is... Its kinda slippery . I replaced it paracord. Held just fine second time around.

Welcome to the bruised butt club. Just happened to me last night when a knot slipped.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

    Glad you're all right.

It happens. Probably would read more of these posts if many folks weren't just too embarrassed.

    Thanks for sharing!

did it when I tried the wrong material for a hammock. What I thought was $1 nylon was rayon. Thanks, Walmart. ;-)

My crash came when I thought I had the hammock at night....but it was actually the bug netting. Stuff stretched pretty darn good and didn't rip, but it sure didn't cushion my butt hitting the deck floor....and knocking the air out of myself (had forgotten in my age what that felt like). Son had a good laugh though. That is also the night I learned to not hang higher than your willing to fall. ....also 550 paracord is a joke (I then got to laugh at my son). There were a lot of lessons that first night.

I'm glad you ok and and butt and ego are still intact.

LOL...my first time happened this weekend, setting up the wife's hammock for the first time for her to sleep in.

She's a lot shorter than I am, so I was fussing around quite a bit trying to get it the right height off the ground, and the sag set right (no ridgeline yet).

Made an adjustment, went to sit in the hammock to test it out, and the one side just gently let go and deposited my butt on the forest floor.

Turns out that I'd forgotten to put the half-hitch in once I'd made the adjustment there (she's using a modified 'biner & rings setup as a buckle hitch for her straps).

She laughed her butt off watching me down on the ground.

To her credit...she still slept in it that night!

I whipped a gathered end with mason line once. Turns out that mason line is also slippery. Same result!
