What are snake skins for? How do they help? I don't know if I should make some.

Assuming you have an HH, they provide another means to store your hammock for transportation (rather than a simple stuffsack) by encapsulating the entire hammock fly and body into one long tube that you just ball-up and stuff into your pack. Since they are typically waterproof (silnylon), they make it easier to setup/takedown your hammock in the rain such that your hammock's body (and underquilt if you make the snake skins large enough) does not get wet during deployment or take down.
They are shown in use at the end of this 'HH Takedown' video.
“I think that when the lies are all told and forgot the truth will be there yet. It dont move about from place to place and it dont change from time to time. You cant corrupt it any more than you can salt salt.” - Cormac McCarthy
Uh, they can work on hammocks (or tarps) besides Hennesseys, too.
I’ve just recently made snake skins. Easy to make. Easy to use. No down side to speak of.
I didn’t use sil-nylon since I don’t have any right now. I wouldn’t have wanted to use sil until I get some practice sewing with it. Speaking of which; anyone have old sil scraps that aren’t large enough to use for anything else? I could use them to practice sewing sil.
The harder I work, the luckier I get.
