    First test; a success

Friday night was my first time doing a "real hang" (not in my backyard) with my new 20º Phoenix UQ and 20º Burrow TQ from Hammock Gear.

I saw that the low temps (at home) were forecast to reach the very low 30s so I didn't worry too much about layering too much as we were only going to a canyon about 15 miles away from home.

As the evening wound down, and everyone started dispersing for bed, I noticed that the thermometer hanging from my ridgeline was at 24º. Feeling that it would likely get lower, I decided to bed down while wearing my coat as I didn't wear/pack any thermal base layers under my outer clothes.

Temperatures during the night dropped to 19º.

During the night, I was at the most "slightly chilled." Had I worn appropriate base layers, I would have been very cozy and warm. I would have to say that the UQ/TQ performed very well; in fact, I'd say they excelled at their temperature rating.

I packed both quilts into the TQ stuff sack it came with and they fit very nicely at the bottom of my Osprey Exos 46; leaving ample room for the rest of my gear.

Nice... Did you use anything for your feet, like a pad?

Did you go up SF canyon? Was there a lot of snow on the ground still?
AF canyon has a little snow on the ground, but the reservoirs are open so the snow should be gone soon.

No pad. Probably should have, but didn't.

We were in the family campsites in Diamond Fork Canyon. Very little snow on the ground; just patches here and there.

I don't care for the pads, but with a partial UQ they really do help. If not, wrapping a jacket around the foot end will help with the chill.

Thanks for the info on the canyon. I'm looking for dayhikes and overnighters close to home and you were close. AF canyon just isn't ready yet. Neither was Payson canyon last week.
