I just spoke with Kathy at SW/BO and she said she pulled a tarp from their stock and the 12x12 is measured corner to corner. ...

Has anyone ever had another vendor measure tarps like this? It sounds like B.S. I've been a customer of their's for years, its a local company and I've been treated well by them, so I don't think that they are willfully trying to screw people. But either they have been screwed by their supplier or their product is mismarked. Either way I believe that it's their problem to fix without any further charges to the buyers. If I didn't get proper satisfaction on a resolution, I'd stop payment and if they wanted their tarps back, I'd tell them to ship me a prepaid box for it.

The fix is simple for those who bought a "12 footer".
1)They get shipped a "16" footer at no extra charge, and
2) the "12" footer gets picked up at seller's expense, the same way LL Bean does business.

For those not satisfied with 1), above, 2) is the recourse, and all charges for tarps are reversed on buyers' accounts.

Done.

No, measurements are not normally done that way. 12 x 12 means square measurement. On ones that are intended to hang on the diagonal, they state how many feet on the diagonal with side dimensions optionally mentioned. ie 12' on the diagonal; 8.5 x 8.5 square ft coverage. There are more variations of this, but regardless for what was mentioned in their ad, and what these tarps have always been in the past with size and price....these are just wrong, wrong, wrong.

That lady that did the measuring obviously doesn't know how tarps are suppose to be measured.
Here is the page from the Kelty site and they measure square not on the diagonal or by the ridge line. The Noah's Tarp 9 is the best example.

I also found it fishy that their customer service number was "experiencing technical difficulties", and to "please call again later"...

The gentlemen I spoke with said it's "12x12", but most likely didn't measure it... However, I did defend everyone on here stating that there are several people not satisfied and that we expect our money back if we get 8x8... He even said that it would be a prepaid return;-) 99% that got shafted by a dealer themselves...

Btw, I called the online ordering number and they transferred me over to sales, in case you wondered how I got a hold of them in lieu of the bad number...

I say, chalk it up to experience and move on....on to a retailer that advertises properly. That said, I will likely keep the two I bought but I also pulled the trigger on a Noah's 12 on sale at Cabela's. What the heck right?

I agree. After I send an email of dissatisfaction I'm gonna seal the seams, give one to a friend and move on.

Other tarps have used diagonal measurements in the past. I believe even the Kelty Noah was once labeled this way. In recent years though most companies have switched to measurements along the edges.

Have 2 12x12, seam taped, never used,SG tarps, from last year. $ 20.00 pc/+shipping. One taken out of bag and restuffed. One in bag as of yet unremoved.
