    Questions about Clark

I have a couple of questions. Joe got his Clark yesterday and we're
already in love with it. Now I need to save for MINE. But we're a
little confused about a couple of things.

    1. What the heck do we do with the HEAD end of the rainfly? Does it
just flap loose? Do we stake it out? We got the XL version of the
fly. It seems like it needs to be staked out or something. But we
watched your video and really didn't see any good closeups of that
    part of the hammock.

    2. You say in the video you can shut down the sides almost flat.
Well, you know in a tent when you're touching the sides during a
rainstorm how rain weeps through the fabric. Doesn't this happen with
the Clark rainfly? Do you need to leave a few inches space between
your body/hammock and the fly? Or is it truly rainPROOF?

    3. I'd love you forever if you did a video about TAKING DOWN the
Clark? We managed to get it hung without touching the ground, but the
take-down was a bit confusing. Maybe it's just a matter of practice.

All in all we are exceptionally happy with this hammock. Now I"m
crying the blues because I love my Speers. Why would I need both when the Clark is so perfect? ::laughing:: I just don't know. Now I know why you all have 87 Hammocks each!

Anyway.. thanks so much for all your help!

    1. I stake out all parts of the rainfly EXCEPT the foot end (small end.) I can't imagine not staking out the head end.

    2. I have never used the Clark rainfly flat because of the same concern. I have staked it nearly flat, but you need a little room to get in the hammock, and without staking it, the rainfly would flap in the wind and blow against the hammock. I view that option more like a built in sock option, for which you'd need another tarp in real nasty wind/rain.

    3. I haven't done it yet, but I would try something like this: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4124

I just untie the one end, and stuff the whole mess into a stuff sack right now as I'm taking it down, tarp and all. The BlackBishop bag would make things a lot easier.

COPYED FROM OTHER POST ON AN OTHER FORUM

mataharihiker is right on all accounts
In my video's and I am hopeing that you have watched both videos but
I talk about haveing them with hikeing sticks with it up and then I
do a shot with it in the lower version and then in a coccoon version
with the execption of the caccoon version it is all staked out. On
the foot end there are two little flaps with velcro on them and two
grommets one on each side but you dont have enough tie outs to put
them on and I dont add any there i just leave it velcroed up around
    the rope.

Yep just open the pocket that has the other pocket in it and turn it
inside out then untie from tree or straps how ever you are do it and
start stuffing everthing into the main pocket walking to the head end
and untieing it there and stuffing it.

Once you have it all stuffed into main pocket then put into smaller
pocket like you would a pillow in a pillow case. that way the head
end is the first to come out.

(note) you notice that I have all the tie outs rapped up nicely so
they are easy to untie the next time. I do this before I untie
    anything from tree.

The reason I didn't put a video together about taken it down was
there was already one on youtube done. But if you think I should do
one and you think it would help others I will be glad to put one out
    of taken it down.

and lastly mataharihiker and others on this forum have tied a ridge line that
they connect the bug net too and take the tarp off of the hammock
it's self. this serves a dual purpose. One they can now tie the tarp
up higher and give more head room and two it allows them to have a
ridge line that is used to hold bug net up and other things
And three it allows them to stow the tarp it's self in a different
location and makes it easy to put up if you get caught out in the
rain it's the fist thing that you put up and then go under it and put
up you hammock which is a great idea but only after you have learned
to put up the way it was intended.

Linda and some others have adopted this and it works good for them
and she has some great pictures of it on here. I would suggest tho
that you learn how to put it up the way it was intended to be put up
first and get comfy doing it several times before you start taken it
apart and trying to hang it.

    Just a thought

Great questions and mataharihiker once again thanks for the help it is great
that others put there input in I have said this a bunch but that is
what is great about this forum great people.

    have a good weekend

Pat is correct on everything about my set-up except for one thing. I do not have a separate ridge line for the bug net. Instead, I chose to tie some very thin spectra line to the bungee chords at both head and foot ends of the bugnet...this mean I now have 3 lines going from hammock to tree at both ends...hammock bed, bugnet and tarp. This may change again as I refine things...we hangers are like that...always playing...if it's not raining I also neatly coil and tie all my lines...it makes things easier in the long run...

Hey cavediver, let her get unpacked and unwound, throw the wet stuff in the wash, feed the dogs; whatever. I know the last thing I want to do when I get out of the woods is to jump on the computer!

I want the report as well; Hurry, Annie. Let's hear how it went!
