I've been somewhat frustrated for awhile by poorly placed trees in my yard. To solve the problem I put together a hammock stand to test my equipment.
The result pictured is my second try. My intent was a simple to build and dissemble for storage. My other design requirement was the need to support both hammock and tarp allowing simulating the 13' optimal distance between trees. Two the eight foot 2x4s were bolted together allowing the adjustment between tree hugger attachment points.
I used 4 - 2"x4"x8' treated
6 - 2"x2"x8' "
Assorted carriage bolts
As indicated on my envelop plan, I intended to stake the bottoms of the poles to the ground. I have found this important. If the base of the 2x2s are in line with the attachment points of the 2x4 uprights and the top horizontal spreader 2x4s there is a tend tip if while in the hammock you push along the length with your feet (feet on both sides of hammock pushing backward). I believe an improvement over my stand would be to have the base of the 2x2s closer to the center of the structure.
