One needs to bear in mind that some folks deal well with techie stuff and some do not. Whoopies are techie. I have some, might use them, might not. I would not even try to explain Whoopies to my SO. Not her thing.

Absolutely right. I don't use Elephant Trunks but I did switch from toggles to Dutch Buckles. I didn't even think of this and I use them.Originally Posted by BrianWillan

I thought whoopies where really simple. Just have him watch one of shugs videos on hammock suspension.
I am not really a noobie, but far from well experienced so I can remember my first hangs lol. I remember having to ask how the....this contraption you have on here works (it was a borrowed rig) but if I were alone it would not have been hard to figure out. The kid is a boyscout, I'd say go with the whoopies!!
I've had my HH expedition for six months, upgraded to DIY whoopie slings a couple of months ago. Got all my info from this forum and Shugs videos (thanks guys). Love the whoopie slings because of the weight savings and the ease of adjustment. Just completed a through hike of the Alabama Pinhoti using them. Only problem was on the first day I discovered that one of the adjustable loops had pulled through. Wish some one had mentioned that the adjustable loop will eat itself. My new JRB whoopies have beads to prevent this.
I am new to hammoking. I am working on getting my pack weight downsi I planed on switching the staps in my new WBBB, I gave the webbing suspension a try and it was supper easy to set up and adjust. I added the Dutch woopie set up with the tree huggers and hooks. Supper easy as well, but not as easy as the straps. The woopies will only save a few oz over straps, but there are easier places to save a coule oz. if I weren't working so hard on getting my weight down and a bit of a gear geek, I would have stuck with the webbing. I love my Dutch stuff and woopies and won't be switching back!
I switched out my "D" rings, on my Black Bird, for a set of whoopies!! Whoopies are easy breezy!!
YUP. I would hate my Whoopies if I had to go back to toggles. The Dutch Buckle/Elephant trunks are the way to go.
I would go back to the triangle buckle setup on my WBBB if I did not make a set of Elephant trunks for my self. Sorry Bloom....
The only thing is I am now able to keep the tree sap off my hammock by means of splitting up the straps from the hammock.
