    Shaving Under quilt onces?

What kind of weight savings can I expect when using momentum or sevenD or 8D fabric instead of 1.1 ripstop?

I,m ready to fill the shell on an under quilt that I gust redid using Momentum 50. I belisve its 7D. Shell weight with suspention is 4.89oz. Looks like im saving 2.45 oz from shell done with 1.1, 7.34oz. Only reason I am doing the redo is to increase the size. 1.1 was 42x60. New quils will be 48x72. This it tapered to 44in at the foot end. So total savins is about 1/2 on the shell weight. In the end with 12 oz of down and new quilt weighs 16.89. old quilt was 19.34. Total savings is 2.45oz But I did increse the size of my quilt by 27%. So if they were the same size you would saze 3.1 oz.

M50 weights around 0.69 oz/sq yd and Ripstop 1.1 weighs, well 1.1 oz/ sq yd so a bit of math tells me that you save 0.41 oz/sq yd of shell material used.

What about the difference in weight between a Phoenix made of 1.1 and one made of M50?
(Sorry to get semi off topic from what you posted. But, it saves me from starting a new thread to ask... I'll buy you a coke as an apology. )

I used to make my UQ using 1.1 ripstop and now I use Seven D (0.64oz/sy) or KG-8D (0.67oz/sy) and save 2.5 ounces. Keep in mind that my quilts are on the small side (40"x51"). Those of you making larger quilts could easily save 3 ounces.

I did a bunch of figuring on this using my UQ as a base (42x52) and I figured that if I switched to M50 and 900FP down then I would save around 5 oz. over 1.1 and 800FP down.

It also would cost around $100, which is twice what I paid to put my current quilt together. Really not a bad deal at $10 per ounce saved.

Yea, if I could get a 20F underquilt under a pound then I'm all for it.

I actually have a 20F UQ from Hammockgear made entirely with Momentum 50 on the way. I know I'll save weight, just curious how much. lol

My 20F M90/KG8D Phoenix weighs 16.55 oz with draft collars. I'll be making a M50 summer UQ soon and will be looking at ~9oz estimated. M50 is sweet stuff. I highly recommend it. It is very wind resistant but less breathable than 1.1 because of the serious DWR. Consider you will be saving ~0.41 oz per square yard. Not knowing your dimensions, that's about all I can offer.
