So someone does make lighter tyvek?

Yes - Tyvek 1443r. It's the clothes grade version of tyvek. Think clothing for a lab. 1.25/oz per yard. Not quite as durable or waterproof as the standard Housewrap, but I have used it as a ground cloth before.

    2 questions for you:
    Where are you going?
What was wrong with the polycryo or window film? It is lighter than cuben, no?
    Ok, that was 3 questions.

Well what I have found, and it could be wrong, is polycro is basically the same stuff that is used for the laminate in cuben fiber - so like cuben fiber without the weave. My concern was it would wear out too quickly.

Does it repell water and is it durable?

I made a cover out of 1.25 tyvek and it came in at 122 grams which is in the range I was looking for. Now I need to trail test it.

I'm told hikers have completed thru hikes with a single polycro ground cloth. Except for the thorny desert polycro ground cloths reportedly hold up very well. I'm experimenting with some for a light tarp in good weather.
