    Stand recommendations

I've been looking around for a decent hammock stand (don't really have the tools or time to diy one, but that's certainly in my future). Most of the ones I've seen for sale are either kind of flimsy, too short, too expensive, or have some other glaring fault.

I've heard good things about both the Pawleys Island Tri-Beam Textured Steel hammock and the Byer Vario. However, I've heard varying reports of their quality/comfort, so just wondering if you HF folks have any recommendations either way, or know of any other models/options I could take a look at.

Oh, for reference, I weigh about 220lbs and intend to use my ENO Doublenest with a whoopie sling setup.

I have the vario stand i sleep in it every night. The posts are sturdy and it is very stable. It is quite hefty but not un manageable for one person. I drag it around my room when i need more room. So i recommend that stand.

If you aren't too concerned with aesthetics then it's very easy to make a stand, I just went to Home Depot, found the galvanized pipe section and asked them to cut the lengths I needed, took it home and screwed together, took about 2 hours total including drive.

There are many, many threads here about different stands. Here is the link I used.

I sleep in a tommy hammaca xx grande using this stand every night as well. It's great and comes in multiple colors so you can match it to the color of your walls or carpet.

Edit: I weigh 230, and the stand is rated up to 350lbs I think, so no worries there. I've taken naps w/ the gf and it's been fine. But truthfully, I'd rather have drilled into the studs so I didnt have to have a stand.

This is dead simple, and works. If you don't need it to be portable, use a one piece top bar, and dispense with the union. The feet don't need to be as long as Ed made them, either. 16" is plenty.

Whew, you guys really came through again. I have no idea how I didn't find that page before; and from Ed Speer no less!

I'm going to try to hit up home depot for some pipe this weekend

If you get a Vario stand make sure it has the knobs on the side and not on the top.

I was in my huge Brazilian hammock this weekend and with everything at max extension (I don't have a top extension, but wish I did), my butt was still touching those &#*$ top knobs!

Just make sure that whatever stand you choose is high enough for your sag. I got a stand (for free), which was initially sold with a net / spreader bar hammock. The stand is only 39'' high and I have to reduce the sag of my hammock not to touch the lower tube.

Being curious, I checked in a french DIY-supermarket what would be the cost to build the Ed Speer tube stand. For a 158''/79'' stand It comes to €170 ($225 without tools)
