I was wondering if any of my fellow Arkansas Hangers, or anyone else, have ever camped at lake Ouachita. If so, I would be interested in any info about doing so. Thanks!

I live not 45minutes from that lake, but have never hiked or camped in anything other than a corp of engineers campsite. Their website isn't bad as far as information is concerned: http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/lakes/....php?l=camping
If memory serves, some of the sites on the northern side of the lake may be free sites, but I could be misremembering that.
Interested to see what other folks may have to say about this lake.
Thanks for the quick reply Harrellt, I'm trying to get a last minute trip with the kids planned for the Coleman Crystal mine, and some camping. Finding out things are full most places.
Huh. Camping on one of those islands looks pretty cool! Have any of y'all ever done this at Lake Ouachita? I bet my wife would like to do that.

I figure that would be the case since the entire state of AR is on Spring Break. For family camping, we've stayed at Brady mountain before and it was great. You are next to a "resort", so there are house boat docks and lots of bass/ski boats putting in at the ramp there. Might not be the most peaceful week at that location, but that's the only location I have experience with. It's a big lake, there's bound to be some peaceful family camping still available.
Thats my 2nd home, camping on the islands... scubadiving, fishing, hunting, backpacking, just hanging out...
