    Seam seal for sil

    Say that 3 times fast...
... Anyway, I was at a local outdoor supplier and I found a seam sealer for sil nylon. It claims that regular seal will not adhere to sil. Is this true? Do I need to buy this overpriced stuff?

    What do y'all use?

(as this is the last step of my DIY tarp this will hopefully be my last dumb question)

    Automotive store.

Look for flow-able silicone seal used to seal leaky windshields. Works like a charm!

Remember, silicone needs moisture to cure. Really low humidity will prolong drying, and I have occasionally have misted seams with a spray bottle (lightly) after eight hours. It will cure overnight, but will still feel tacky.

And no, the urethane sealant will not work. Only silicone will stick to silicone.

Trust these guys they will not steer you wrong........I have used the product above on every tarp I own and it has not failed me yet.

When applying it to your tarp make sure your tarp is pitched taut. Place a small dab/blob of the sealer on your index finger of one hand, run your finger down the ridgeline from one end to the other replenishing the silicon dab as needed. At the same time, place the other hand under the tarp ridgeline and use this index finger to press against the topside finger. This usually makes a seam of silicon that is the width of the index finger tip. Also allows for the sealer to be worked into the thread holes of the ridgeline.

Good luck and let us see the finished product.
