    Let's talk plastic (sheeting)

Tyvek held sway for awhile as lightweight, tough, and strong packaging, tested and preferred by major shippers and their carriers for soft goods.

Recently, I see more coming in tough plastic bags. Some are partly reflective on one side; all are are hard to rip open. I'm unfamiliar with varieties of trash-bag plastic sheeting, if that is what the material is. Or is it?

What is this packaging, and where can I find specifications and sources?

If it has a recycle code on it, here's a reference:

Oh yeah. Those are impossible to tear open. I've received them from LL Bean and REI.

They are Polyethylene Mailers. Lightweight, waterproof, and tamper resistant. They are 65 micron (2.5ml) multilayer LDPE (usually 2 or three layer -- white/silver).

I've seen them at Staples. I think they come pretty large -- maybe 24" x 24".

Uline has them too : http://www.uline.com/BL_1551/Tear-Pr...hylene-Mailers

Maybe a roll of raw poly is available somewhere.

Well, my motivation in asking is that Sgt. Rock has posted a challenge elsewhere on what is new in films.
Some of these bags seemed thinner than I recalled heavy black trash bags being. I don't have enough bag or the scale by which to estimate weight per sq yard. But tough? My, yes. So, before going hi-zoot fabric...........

I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit
And on the slitted sheet I sit.

    You're welcome!
