    Help with suspension System.. Please

SO I have decided to update my Hennessy Expedition.

I am thinking of removing the stock ropes it came with and replacing with Spectra Plus Cord as follows:

Using a larkshead knot and attaching to the hammock. 10' on each side - Breaking strength is 1500 lbs (Per Jumpworks website),

Replacing the Straps with 1" Slings from Strapworks (Breaking Strenght 3,500 lbs.)

And then using 2 SMC descender rings per side. tied into the spectra cord.
And then finally a gated biner on each side.

Do I ahve evrything right. I have been thinking abou this for a few years and am finally getting around to it......
    Thanks
    Rick

That should be fine. 7/64 Amsteel would be lighter and smaller and have a similar breaking strength.

WV and I have both done business with an ebayer who exaggerated the size and strength of the hi zoot Spectra, Kevlar, and Vectran cordage he sold. By a factor of 2, I think. Perfectly nice fellow, but he didn't know what he was selling.

If it is Spectra, and related to parachutes it is likely NOS because Allied Chemical got out of the business long long ago. It may be rather fluffy, in which case it will snag and not wear well. 50c foot is expensive. See next paragraph.

You can buy Amsteel Blue, of similar fiber for $.25 /foot +.05 /ft shipping on 100feet, and know that it is 1500lb bs strong. Either mail order from a vendor here, or copy the prices from Redden Marine and go to a marine store eg West Marine that price matches sells Samson 7/64 Amsteel Blue.

    Suspension help

Thanks all, I just found the site Whoopeslings.com and I think they will have all the parts I need.
I have been thinking about swapping to a lighter suspension the past few years and start to read up on it, but then never get any further. I think I am going to make the change now for my April hike.

I am searching threads now for the best way to connect to a Hennessy Expedition, but if anyone has any tutorial vids or knows of a site with some, I would be much appreciative.
    Thanks
    Rick

I am checking it out as I speak.

Stu at whoopieslings will have everything you need. You can even ask about the switch over as well as possibly looking into incorporating a pair of dutch hooks into your whoopie slings. Great setup and really easy to use.
