My question is has anyone ever made "extenders" for the bottoms of their tarps, to make the tarps taller?
I have a superfly tarp and I love it. But sometimes I wish that it was taller so that I could still have the full coverage to the ground and be able to stand up all the way inside the tarp.
I hope this makes sense.
Are you looking for something removable or permanent?
Permanent would be easy, just toss in a flat felled seam to join to your existing tarp and you're set.
Removable may be a bit more difficult. I'd have to think on that one for a bit.

I was thinking removable, for only in the winter or when the wind is really blowing.
suppose wide strip of velcro would do the trick along the bottom edge of the tarp, maybe something a little extra at each end to keep the velcro from starting to peel apart in a high wind, not sure exactly what though......maybe run everything around the ends to the inside of the tarp a few inchesOriginally Posted by lubbockhammockguy

I once ran a tarp / poncho from the inside of my reg tarp down to the ground just by hitting the attachment trees and a couple improvised stakes during a horrific sideways rainstorm. I only ran it on the windward side, worked perfectly. Honestly I don't have a "technique" to recommend as I did it on the fly during the storm, but it was pretty easy with a little extra cordage and did the trick 100%. Picture an almost vertical panel that extended from about 2 feet above the bottom of my tarp down to the ground. Hope that's helpful.

Body, that is a great way to protect from crazy windstorms. But I was looking for something that I could rig up to cover 2 or three sides. The 4th side would be left normal for entry and exit purposes and maybe venting.
I've also often wished I could have the best of both worlds and have a huge lightweight tarp.
What about something like this? I just threw a sketch together of the basic idea. II was originally thinking to tie it off to the mid-panel pullouts, but that would necessitate it being much narrower to get the right direction of pull. You may be able to use the same stakes for both of them, but without having a prototype or anything it's hard to say.

Red is the extender. It would go underneath the tarp and tie off to the ridgeline (for a CRL), or the tarp RL tieouts.

Acer, I think tying off to the ridgeline would work-or the prussks on the ridgeling and if you got tarp ridgeline from tree to tree the prussiks would make easy work of dialing it in top side.
On the downside for me is that I'm almost always using a center pole mod and I dont think it'd work for me
Hi, This wouldnt be a permanent attachment, but if you rigged up a tarp on the inside of each side a few inches(so it overlapped like shingles), it would make more protection. Or you could probably use a cheap 6 x 10(or whtever matches your type length), cut it in half and re hem the cut sides, and sew one to each side of your current tarp to make it 3 feet wider.
