Guilty pleasures

Lightweight hiking is a weight/level of comfort balance. If it helps ya enjoy the hike, it's worth the weight.

My guilty trail pleasure -discount used books.

Guiltier trail pleasure - using them for kindling.

There is something almost decadent about sitting in camp on a wet morning, reading ahead so you'll have lots of kindling that night - or even just sitting by the fire, tearing and tossing in the pages when you're done to lighten the load.

Feel free to laugh at me, but try it sometime...

Water sandals (currently teva zilch's), a tiny bit too much first aid stuff (see enough trauma in your life and it becomes more real than a "what if") and, going with the water sandals,... too much fishing stuff. Native brookies can be soooo finicky, and I do keep it to a minimum.... by my standards.

glock entrenching tool. Never know when a war might break out and you need a good trench. Or when you might just have to take a dump.

I call it a $&it kit.

Bridge hammock spreader bars. I could probably use my hiking poles but then porch mode would be out of the question.

Ever since getting my down pillow I don't leave home without it. It is so much more comfortable than using clothing, like before.

The other thing that I don't go on a camping trip without is my crystal light fruit punch packs.

My cell phone e-charger. It's a little battery backup that will charge my smartphone via USB hookup. I like to read e-books in the hammock during the evening or when the rain is coming down hard.

Vodka and those little drink pouches from walmart. They make Energy drinks now so I don't have to deal with caffeine withdrawals. The vodka makes a nice adult cool-aid before bed. On a week long canoe trip only lake water gets old.
