Heh. You mean that piece of prairie grass masquerading as a spaceship? I suppose if the ancient Egyptians were to build the pyramids as landing ports, they might as well have built their ships out of papyrus......

Heh. That's my "content" face. I was feeling really good and relaxed.

Me, too. I lucked out in marrying a woman smarter than me. That morning from the hammock is one of the most beautiful in memory.

This was my first time in 30 years to saddle up and hike a trail, but it was well worth waiting for! Thanks to all those in the group and their words of encouragement, tons of information and help; making this a most enjoyable weekend. Special thanks to Madd777letting me carpool with him and words of hanging wisdom he shared with me in car and on the trail. Thanks to LilRicky and Great White for the use of their stoves when mine wasn't functioning, and Grinder for the inspiriation that hiking can be a lifelong activity. Also a shout out to Marty for making sure I wasn't left behind or lost on the trail.
Now I'm hooked, can't wait until next fall for another great weekend with a great bunch of people.
And as everyone else has mentioned, a special thanks to Old Dog and his foresight in caching the extra water. I would have hated to try out my new water filter in those few mud holes that were wet.

To hangNyak and O-boy, thank you for joining us on this little stroll. Last year I was in the same place you were on this hike. More gear than needed and a little uncertain about the whole 'hiking' thing. BUT as you are probably aware now there are a great bunch of people out here wanting to make your experience something to devote the rest of your life to. Looking forward to having both of you involved in our future togeather.

No sir, thank you for a memorable first hike. You have a great spirit about you, that makes everyone feel like an old friend. You made me smile and laugh many times this weekend. Thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge of hiking and hammocking. I am now on a mission to lighten my load a little and gear up for the next hike. First order of business is to finish that DIY tarp I've started.

    Video

Here's the video I put together. Sorry that it's not more refined, but I think it captures the experience fairly well...

Just sat here and watched your vid again and realized what you did to spend your weekend with a bunch of outlaws, back in my day it would have been that's cool, now I guess it's, you rock!

Thanks, olddog. It's always fun to see the state at 10 MPH, much less when I get the chance to hang with such a great group of folks at the end of it. It's a weekend that I'll treasure for the rest of my life.
