I have a MacCat Deluxe. Every time the weather is good I think, "a standard size would have been fine". But when the wind and rain hit I'm thinking, "I made a smart move getting the Deluxe". In the winter I pitch it low, close to the hammock, and almost to, if not all the way to the ground.
I ♥ my Warbonnet
Deluxe. Had it out in a couple of serious thunderstorms last week -- great coverage. Ties out very tightly.
After reading everyone's replies, I'm leaning towards adding the extra 2 ounces and going with the Deluxe. No one seems to recommend the Standard. I was afraid that the Deluxe might be too big and make it more difficult to find a place to set-up.
the Micro is pretty small. my avatar shows it on a Claytor.
I also have the Standard, which is a palace compared to a stock HH.
I dont have the weather to warrant a Deluxe, but maybe Texas does. I would think in 3 seasons the Standard would work great on all but the largest of the HH line. The ULBP, not a problem.
I bought the deluxe from a member on this forum and took it out last weekend for the first time. I have an HH Expedition Asym. I got the MacCat up about an hour before the thunderstorm hit and was really glad to have the extra coverage. It all still fit in the standard snakeskins, hammock, fly, and all. I say go for it. No one can feel 2 ounces.
I bought the deluxe plus......$25 bought me a two feet longer tarp. I have a 14 foot ridgeline deluxe, and I like it. Now that I am pitching it over a Bear Mountain Bridge I will be glad for the extra coverage.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.
Just a quick heads up - I've got about a week and a half of my trip remaining. I'm currently in Amsterdam, and I'll be heading through Brussels and Paris before I fly back to the US. I've gotten quite a few 'well-wishing' emails and PM's from people, so thanks for those, and I'll let everyone know when I'm back and open for business. Probably sometime around July 15th.
