Video: How I made my tyvek hammock

    Hello all,

Here a short video on how I made my tyvek hammock.
The way it is done is nothing special and I'm sure you're all familiar with the "how to" part, but the main focus is on the tyvek itself.
Quite useful and lightweight in my eyes

    Have fun !

Have never thought about a Tyvek hammock before. How do you control the moisture since it is not breathable.

Hi, it should be breathable according to the description in Czech.
Some specs in English can be found here:
    http://www2.dupont.com/Tyvek_Constru...dia/solid.html

The Czech site where the tyvek is from, has more details, with using Google Translator you will be able to understand the most important parts.

But I have not yet slept a whole night in it, was just a few times laying in it for a few hours during winter time.
No idea yet how it performs in the summer time in warmer conditions..

Tyvek has long been touted as a breathable house wrap. Personally I think they're stretching the definition of the term "breathable."

Still, you may find your hammock perfectly comfortable. JustJeff, I think, challenged convention and made a silnylon hammock and liked it.

@ Knotty: It's for me just about trying out new things, the great advantage is that it is very light. on the other hand also bulky, and the color is not that great :-)

    @ SGT Rock: 82 gr/m²

That is kind of heavy stuff, I can imagine how hard it is going to be to make that stuff soft and how hard it was to work with whipping it. The heaviest I've worked with is 63 gr/m^2. I just got some at 42 gr/m^2 and I don't know that it would be durable enough for a hammock

It was indeed a lot of work, but tyvek around here is not easy to come by, and it was a leftover from a friend, so i was more then happy to try this out :-)
But I don't expect this one to replace my standard hammock, since this is bulky and not my favorite color..

Well when I saw your video the first thing I thought of was what a cool idea for when you are not always guaranteed to find a spot for hanging since the hammock could double as a ground cover under your tarp.

I hear you buddy. It's the trying new things that motivates me as well.

    Enjoy the hammock.
