    New Hammock

I just bought my first hammock.its a hammock bliss.I was wondering if i should buy special strap to hang it or just use the rope it came with?
Its rated at 350lbs I think but i weigh 275 so the 4.5mm rope makes me nervous. If i do use the rope what is the best way to tie it?

I wouldn't be worried about the weight rating. The reason most of us use straps here is to better protect the tree bark.

    Welcome!

The only reason weight bothers me is for my b-day my wife bought me the net hammock fromwalmart and i ended up on my butt. It was funny apparently cuz everyone else was laughing.

Welcome to the group bigtone there are several types out there but I think just using a ratchet strap wrapped around the tree will work fine tell you find something else. do a search on here on straps, webbing, and the like you should find all kinds of stuff.

    again welcome to the group.

    BigTone,

If you're looking for straps to replace your rope suspension, go to strapworks.com and get their polyester seatbelt webbing, with at least one loop per strap (and you'll want 2 straps). Or you could get the straps and tri-glides at JRB. Or you could get the Slapstraps from ENO (though folks argue these are too stretchy).

That should get you started on straps.

If you want different cord, the consensus seems to be that Amsteel Blue is a good way to go.

For knots, look at this website.
If you've got a suspension rope, you can wrap it around the tree a couple of times and then tie a slippery bowline knot.
But as someone else mentioned, ropes around trees can damage their bark. Straps of some sort are better.
And then of course there's the option of wrapping a tree-hugger strap around the tree and then tying your rope to the strap ends.

    Welcome aboard!
