IIRC Grizz posted a pic of that but that was a while ago.

It can and has been done. However the stresses on the spreader bars require some modifications to the poles. At least one of those is to place a limiter inside the pole so it can not collapse. Some folks have used wooden dowels in the past.
I have not followed bridge technology closely recently so I may not be up on all the tips and cheats. But the answer is, or at least has been, yes... it's been done.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

co-incidently, I put up a video a week ago that shows how I turned Gossamer Gear LT-4 hiking poles into spreader bars (among other things). The spreader bar transformation is the first thing to happen in the vid.

Tigoat trekking poles used as spreader bars
The link above is a trip report with a pic of a bridge hammock using Tigoat trekking poles as spreaders. The video link has some footage also. The footage of the bridge hammock is near the end of the video so you don't have to watch the entire trip report
Pan uses a pair of Leki that are two section and when fully collapsed they are the perfect length for use as spreaders. Slick setup.
