    wet in the northwest

    just finished up a bicycle ride thru the olympic peninsula temp hovered around upper 30's to low 40's all week with rain lots of rain...i am used to blowing rain in my bb but for some reason i got wet all down the side of hammock 2 nites could it be running down the tarp line? got any answers? thanks!

    Could be that or condensation. I camped in the clouds over here in a very wet area & the clouds condensed so much that we had water on the inside too. If you have something like a Superfly, close off the upwind end so the moisture doesn't get in as much & coat it. Could be your breath if it's extremely humid & cold, or again it could be your ridgeline running down from the trees. Finally, it might have been heavy enough to get through if you touched it. I'm guessing that it's the wash of very wet, humid air condensing on the fabric. We have areas just beyond the Olympics that get very similar moisture patterns (see my gallery).

    Another option could be splash up! Depending on how low the hammock was to the ground and how hard it is raining!

    It's happened to me several times, most times the reason is improper tarp positioning and pitching! But there are those occasions when the weather is just that nasty and things happen no matter what, its those times that I am thankful for the materials used to make my quilts have a great DWR (as most have/do) so it will protect my insulation at those moments (or the times when I've had a brain fart )!
