Single Ridge Line on the WB Mamajamba

I recently purchased a WB Mamajamba, which is a really nice tarp. I plan on using a single ridge line with a knot bone on one end and a 9 biner on the other end.

I would be interested in other hanger's opinions regarding whether they place the ridge line under the tarp or over the tarp. Also, does anyone have any better suggestions regarding hanging the Mamajamba.

I've done both. Usually depends on the weather. I like under best as you get a tight tarp overall from all the cat curves. I usually only pitch over the ridge if I'm expecting serious wind or snow. I now have a dedicated winter tarp so almost always under now...

I did mine under. Just like.the setup better for some reason. I used Whoopieslings.com's dutch ridgeline setup.

I have recently switched from a 2-line ridge to a SRL under the tarp using prussics to attach the tarp. I am using two dutch flyz -- one I use just as a hook and the other for tension and the set-up keeps everything amazingly taut!

I played with the line above and below and favored running the ridgeline below the tarp mainly due to the tightness of the pitch I could achieve with minimal effort.

My SLR is atop my tarp, with the ends attached via prussics, and Dutchware.

I had mine originally under the tarp, but was always concerned about my tarp suffering abrasion from the line.

I'm using Dutch's ridge line setup as well. I've tried it over and under and prefer it over. I haven't used it in really heavy rain but it seems that there would be more of a change to get some drips if the line is run under the tarp....can't speak from experience on that one though.

Just got a Dutch Flyz setup, but I've always used Figure 9's in the past with 2.75mm reflective cord and prussiks as a single ridgeline. Ridgeline under the tarp most of the time, but not for any particular reason. It just seemed "right" for me.

Let me preface by sayng that I do not use the Mamajamba tarp.

I run a RL under my tarp for same reason as many have already stated, it gives a nice tice pitch. I've yet to notice any abrassion from the RL on my tarp as the only real contact is at the edges where the reinforcement patches are located. I've been in several strong storms (side was blowing rain) and have never had a problem with rain running down the RL under the tarp. Of course I prefer to pitch my tarp level and not on an angle if I can help it.

Setting up over the tarp allows you take advantage of the catenary cut the WB ridgelines have. They also don't necessarily need support from underneath because of the grosgrain on it.

Second that. I have a WB edge and it has a really nice cat cut on the rl. I would assume
Mambajamba is similar. Running a srl under might hinder the cat cut. The cat cut doesn't extend the whole length of the rl, just towards the ends of the tarp. Srl above wouldn't hinder the cat cut. I hang mine with 2 adjustable lines. One on each side that still allows for quickly moving the tarp to cover the hammock.
