    Virgin Falls Over Night Trip

I can't tell ya'll how excited I am to make this post.

We had tried a first hang early in the year with our new HH's. It was a bust. We got to hang 2 1/2 nights in my mom's back yard last week.

My daughter is having fear issues when waking up in her hammock. She was able to work thru them for the most part. She is a sleep walker and her fear is related to waking up in the sleep walking phase.

She wanted to hit the trails yesterday and do a one nighter. We along with my BF aka Bones went to Virgin Falls in Sparta, TN. It's a 4 mile hike into the falls. The falls originate from the mouth of a cave and drop 110ft into another cave mouth and disapear from there.

The place was covered in folks last night. We lucked up and got a site at the top of the falls. Bones camps in a tent and I hung my hammock and my daughters. I had left my Hex tarp in my sisters car last week and she lives 3 hours away. With no time to get it back I took a brown poly tarp from TSC. It worked fine, but I did miss my Hex. I think I am not liking the ASYM tarp that came with my daughters Cub. We will be changing that ASAP.

The weather was good. It got down to around 50ish and the highs were low 80's. We did fine with the CCF pad and army poncho UQ's I made. The trees were a little closer than I liked, but we made it work. I did not sleep well, but that's because I had my own fear issues...lol The falls were so loud I could not hear anything around us. I was up till 2:30 am I finally chilled out and slept off and on till 730 this morning.

If your ever in the TN area and can hike this trail I would say go!

I like Virgin Falls! Me, my dad and my brother go backpacking there sometimes. Though, we hike down to the river rather than camp by the falls.

Flight Chick, glad to hear that you got your tarp setup put together and were able to make the trip. Thanks for the great pics. I was watching the other thread where you divulged the background for your avatar pic. Although I'm close, I had never been to Virgin Falls--definitely on my list now! I suspect I'll be up there sometime in the very near future!

I'm glad you two were able to make it. I hope that you both keep sleeping better and better. Very nice pictures. Looks like a nice place to hang.

I loved Virgin Falls when we went last Feb. It's miraculous how the falls drop out of the rock to disappear again underground! I considered hanging above the big one but we went down to the river and found a nice spot that was quiet and away from the groups of people.
