Why my wallet hates this forum

Since I've joined HF recently my wallet has been hit hard. So hard I had moments where I felt like my ex-wife gained access to my bank account.

    • 4 stoves (Trangia, 2 eBay gas stoves, and an Emberlit)
    • A Warbonnet Blackbird and Superfly
    • Several Dutchware items from Jacks R' Us
    • Kifaru Woobie
    • Got an REI membership along with many little items and a Flash 65 pack
    • Platypus Gravityworks filter. I didn't get the idea from here, but I might as well blame all of you anyway
    • Zing-it. This is like crack for spare time. I've learned how to splice on this stuff and I've already gone through the whole spool. Amsteel should be cake after this.
    • DIY Gear Supply. Thanks to my inability to read details during multitasking I've ordered yards when I thought I was ordering feet. My girlfriend will have a LOT of projects with the automated thread injecting fabric impaler.

Even though I have taken one heck of a hit since joining here I think I will be much better off from going with my super heavy tent setup to a much lighter hammock setup. I've also learned a great deal about optimizing gear, alternate gear setups, and most of all: splicing. OMG splicing.

This is an awesome forum and I can't wait to put it all to use on the 14th when I am heading out with some friends.

Thank God I am not alone. Was beginning to worry I might need an intervention. However since I see this is not unusual I will carry on.

Look at it this way, you want the latest technology to lighten the load in your pack - well, your wallet is now lighter too!

I'm a little fuzzy on the physics, but does using the magnetic strip on your check card cause a loss of facing from it? And, if so, have we really gotten to the point of counting individual plastic molecules against pack weight?

+1. And may I add that the cost of this harmless addiction are much higher for hangers on the other side of the pond, who rely on US gear, due to shipping cost and import taxes!

I estimate about $1500 I've spent on hammocks, suspension, tarps, stoves, filters, fabric, ect., ect. Since joining this place. I guess that should explain why I've never become a donating member, I'm frightened to know how much more money I will be tempted to spend.

In all seriousness, this place is a plethora of information and has helped me rethink pretty much everything about camping/hiking outdoor adventure.

Amen on that! I've bought three (3) Warbonnet's in the last month. Of course my plan was to choose the one that I preferred over the others...but like my wife tells me with shoes...I see the merits and differences in each of them!

Maybe I just have an illness...is there some reason I've been going by my Lenni Lenape name I haven't used since I was a teen?

I don't even want to estimate what I have spent, I think I would slap myself silly...
