Porch mode-- help with setup?

Searching some old threads..Forgive my ignorance but what does running the pull outs on the porch accomplish? I assume they are lashed around the trecking pole, then to the ground? Thank you in advance.

I figured I would my new DIY cuben tarp w/doors to the mix. I really like the way a tarp with doors pitches in porch mode: nice and open with a lot of coverage.

Pass the pole strap through the corner attachment part of the tarp. My tarp has plastic triangles. Then loop this strap over the handle of the pole. Then guyline the corner to the ground. Keeps the cork from being chewed and the pole tip gets pushed into the ground.

I have always been able to find a couple of sticks that work to prop the tarp. You don't have to use trees or poles.
You can just wrap the line around the grip. It will stay put as long as guyout is tensioned.

I'll second this suggestion...find some sticks on-site (though I will use poles if I have them), and simply wrap the line around them:

Ok, here's my HG standard 11 cuben with doors in porch mode. I've got a prussick on the line pullout so I can lock in the tips of my poles and not worry about them popping out and skewering the cuben.
