I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
That is the one I was thinking. Sunrise on Mount Rogers.
Would love to go but its a 7hour drive for me. I'm at the ocean. By time I got there the day would be about over and I would need to leave the next morning to be home by a decent time. Maybe ill attend one of these things when it closer to Shenandoah National Park or Jefferson National Forest up north near Waynesboro. That's only a 3 hour drive so it's not so bad for a 1 night event. I might go if I get a friend to go with me and stay an extra night to make the trip worth it.
Its a long drive for most of us (6+ for me). Had one hanger (Big Turtle) who drove in from Missouri to attend last year.

crumbs! that is nearly a 6 hour drive for me from Northern VA... I'd love to join y'all... it's still a maybe-kind-of-a-longshot possibility.
Yep, I understand about the long drive. Just have to weigh out weather or not the time in camp is worth the driving time.
Gunner is right. There is a trail just across the road from the group site that will take you to the AT. Hiking to were you could get a sunrise could be doable if you get an early start. I think the ridges you would want to go to are about a 1000' accent. Not sure about the distance.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
I would like to come if its cool, but i would have to come thursday or friday and leave on Saturday.
I'm in the hampton roads area. I would love to demo stuff. what type of stuff are you looking to show off? Cause i can bring my motorcycle out there with its rig.

Very cool. Hope to see you there.
I'll have to clear it with the rangers, but having your motor cycle sitting there at the display, showing a compact over night hammock system packed on it, might be interesting.
Matter of fact, I think it would be good to have someones light weight, packed backpack with everything need for several nights on the trail would be good too.
On displays like the motorcycle & backpack, it would be helpful to have a sign or poster telling of the light weight, compact but extremely comfortable sleep systems.
Some people stop & look but are not quite ready to ask questions about what they are looking at. Some basic info on a sign/poster might bump them up into the conversation mode.
