    DIY UQ with interchangable insulation.

Just wanted to share with you guys my latest DIY project:

In this one the insulation is kept in place by 8 pieces of velcro along the inside edges of the UQ,
Mainly because I want the option to insert more / better insulation later without having to shred the entire thing or make a totaly new one later on if i want to upgrade.

(Nevermind the bright orange plastic clips. Its a substitut until I get the real cord locks.

    Windproof ripstop shell.

    Lining

Center on right hand side is this cord lock for easy adjustability while hanging.

You can see one of the velcro pieces on the insulation witch keeps it in place.

I did a similar thing with my first quilt. I need a quilt fast for a trip so I whipped up something similar using PE foam as my insulation. Worked great, little bulky, but I stayed warm.

    Merganser:
The insulation is a lightweight comforter cut in half.

Looks good. What outside dimensions did you go with?

I've thought about doing the same since most of the year I really only need slight variation between a light to moderate weight UQ for comfort here in Florida. I haven't really been satisfied with my experiments thus far, with the exception of a functional (ie, cheap & very bulky) sleeping bag UQ that I successfully worked up for near/below freezing weather.
You'll find me hanging somewhere in the sunshine state.

I really like that idea. It allows for a summer and winter uq without having two laying around. I think its brilliant!
