    DIY UQ and TQ Questions

I just placed an order with Wilderness logics and diy gear supply to make a summer tq and uq. I plan on making them a sewn through style quilt. My thoughts would be to come up with the length and width of each sew the 2 pieces of fabric together, sew the baffles, stuff down, and close the down entry hole. I am thinking 4 oz in the uq and 6 or 7 in the tq. My theory on the uq is have 16 baffles with .25 oz of down in each baffle or 8 baffles with .5 oz of down. Tne TQ will have 14 baffles with .5 oz of down in each. What is yalls thoughts and opinions on my method, please let me know if I'm on the right path.

    Stuffing down sucks. So fewer.

For me, fewer baffles would be fine. 8 seems right, if the baffles are running the length of your body. 16 seems too many, but may be closer if they are running cross ways to your body. (Why do this on a UQ?)

I would lay the 2 pieces of fabric and start in the center stitching baffles/stitching through first, then close one end and sides. Then stuff down, then close final end.

This is my preference because I am usually stitching mesh baffles instead of sewing through. I have to do it this way.

Your in Prattville. A neat sheet for a summer TQ and lay on a neat sheet in the hammock for a UQ to keep the wind off.

I use a KAQ style into late May. 40 is about the bottom of comfort for me, although I built it as a 30 degree quilt. I use it up to high 70s, maybe even 80 degree lows with a little venting.

I've found 45 degree rated gear works well for me until hot summer where I use nothing on top and lay on a neat sheet to keep the wind off my back.

I have made some quilts and reported on my methods. Check my gallery and you will usually find links to the threads there if you see something you like.

I used a Karo baffle design for my winter "reactor" underquilt. 5.5" of thick downy goodness to block out the Canadian winter.

I really like the design though others report problems keeping down in place...
