    Quilting

I just put a quilt together and I thought I might offer some heads up to all my fellow DIYers. Check out Quilter's Dream Batting . I used their Dream Puff Batting for my quilt, I wanted to use the Dream Wool, but I did not have any laying around. I use it all the time in my "civilian quilts" and it is some good stuff and probably a little more readily available than some of the other insulation options. It is warm, and it will maintain its loft and it will stuff with out to much of an issue, and Dream Puff is priced quite reasonable.

Secondly get a hold of your local "Long Arm Quilter". I do this for a living so I just threw my stuff on the machine and 45 minutes later I had a quilt. Long arm quilting does the top stitching for layering quilts together. It can be expensive, but the "large meander" pattern used on outdoor quilts is a quick and easy so if you say please and thank you they might give you a good deal. Not to mention that at the very least they should be able to get you some Dream Puff or Dream Wool.

Looks interesting. Do you have any idea of the weight of these battings? That's an answer that will certainly be expected by all the DIYers on here, myself included.

The quilt I just made with two layers of Dream Puff measures 88 x 54 weighed in at 3lbs 8 ounces. Nylon top, and some unidentified synthetic lining material for the back. A package of wool batting 36" x 46" weighs in at 10 oz. So about a pound an half for a 90 x 60 quilt. I really think it might have potential in DIY gear world.

My back yard test of the Dream Puff quilt, I sat on the back deck in 33 degree weather with no shirt and wrapped in my quilt. Waited for about 20 minutes. My exposed but dressed legs got cold, my face got cold, but where I was wrapped in my quilt was toasty warm. I have high hopes of my new creation.

How's its resiliency to maintain loft after repeated compression? Can it be stored in a stuff sack or would it have to be hung/laid out flat to maintain loft?
You'll find me hanging somewhere in the sunshine state.

The stuff retains it loft forever, maybe not but seems that way. I store my camping quilt in a stuff sack with no problems, when I take it out it might take a few minutes to fluff up, but I have not noticed any loss in loft

been looking into this material last few weeks. Wanting to make an UQ for my son. He has a HH Scout and nothing yet for UQ or TQ besides his military medium weight sleeping system. If I double up the material what type outer material could I use? Thanks

It was 50 degrees out last evening and I had the hammock up so I thought I would "field" test my quilt. I fell asleep and was quite comfortable. My wife was a little upset when she finally found me.
