and the hanging season being short....it can't be as short as washington where it rains 8 months or more out of the year
Well, you do have a really nice section of the Florida Trail near you. It starts at the Fort Pickens State Park and runs along the Gulf Islands National Seashore area and then through the Eglin area. Really pretty country. Check out www.floridatrail.org for info.

I'd also recommend the Florida Trail. No shortage of places to hang around here. I hang year round with the scout troop--we camp about once a month. Blackwater forest is pretty close to you and is an option. Also Conecuh forest in southern Alabama might interest you.

sweet. i will definitely check those places out. are they easily accessible trails? like do i need a vehicle with 4x4, or will my little RWD Miata be fine?
