I've never seen them in SS, Hmm. I picked up a bunch of the #0 nylon ones @ REI lastweek. I plan to use them as double ended mitten hooks. I've found that these are more durable and slightly easier to use.

Anyone try out the stainless steel #.5 s-biners yet? I bought a set, planning on using them to attach a cheap tarp to some extra utility cord with prusiks to make a cheap(ish) car camping tarp.

If they're strong (and light) enough, i'll probably swap out my mini biners from my hammock tarp and use these.

I gave some to paprika Bohlmann for his birthday, I don't think he's used them to set anything up yet. As I recalled they looked the same thickness as the #1's they just have smaller gates and openings. I used #1's in the snow and they did fine, I am sure they will serve you well

great, thanks- makes sense, if the stainless steel #1's have a 35 lb break strength, these should still be more than fine to hold up a tarp

The #.5's are a fairly new product for Nite Ize. They are rated at 3 pounds each but Nite Ize is usually pretty conservative on their ratings.

Yeah, if their #1 has a stated rating of 5lbs, but members here have seen 35 lb breakage, i'm sure the #.5 with 3 lbs should be strong enough to handle a tarp ridgeline. I'll report back once i've tried them out.

ugg, this is exactly the kind of thing i was looking for but couldn't find- the backwoods daydreamer DIY gear minibiners are only 50 cents each, but they've been out of stock for a while, so i ended up buying 12 of the nite ize #.5's for $14. oh well- they ended up being $1.17 each, so they're not much more expensive than the ones you linked
