Just thought I'd let the HH subforum know I put my REI coupon to good use last weekend and grabbed a Backpacker Ultralight Zip. Been pretty impressed with it -- way more comfort than I expected based on all the HH vs WBBB discussions. I'm within the height/weight limit.

The fly is my first piece of silnylon btw -- I feel high class .

I did lots and lots of reading. Been camping in an ENO SN (with whoopies and SRL) up til now. Used both a blue poly tarp and GI poncho at various times and various pitches. Despite the fact that the "progression" seems to be buy a HH first then "upgrade" to a WBBB, I see myself being happy with the BULA for a good while. I was actually filling out the WB order form and happened to flip over to REI to shop for a Kelty tarp and the homepage had the 20% coupon on it. So I dropped everything and grabbed the BULA from my local store for about $43 off sticker price. I've got the REI bulletproof return policy to fall back on too.

So far I'm just suspending it with the stock rope tied in a slipped buntline around a marlinspike knot on my Harbor Freight tree straps. Works fine until I do a whoopie swap. I've made 2 sets of slings so far so no concerns over getting that done once the new has worn off a little.

The HH nylon treestraps are even stretchier than SlapStraps though! Beware and use propper tree huggers.

Anyway, just wanted to say I think I made an informed purchase based on my prior hangs, value for the money, return policy, and weight (2lbs). Would love to get a WBBB one day too, but feel like this was a nice snag with an REI 20%.

I've been using my HH Explorer Deluxe for over a year now. Several mods to it...whoopie slings, and the 2QZQ Mod #4. Got the PU coated HH Hex with it standard when I bought it, and that's currently off at 2QZQ getting silnylon doors and pole pockets added.

Don't see me ever swapping this out...with what I've done, it's exactly what I want.

Haven't noticed any stretch in my HH straps...got the mid length ones and they've worked fine for over a year.

Enjoy my HH's as well. I had a bit more issue with my Exped but enjoy my larger HH's. Great pickup!

What problem did you have with the Expedition?

Congratulations. I am very jealous. I am also an ENO user and, like you, I am considering using my REI discount towards a Hennessy. I was looking at the expedition though. Glad you're happy with it.

Yeah, I went with the BULA b/c I would be going backwards in terms of weight with the Expedition. My ENO with whoopies/straps is 1 lb and I've been using a GI Poncho as a tarp -- it's heavy (at 3lbs with stakes and tieouts/ridgeline) but does triple duty as my raingear and pack cover.

My first hammock was a HH Expedition that I picked up from REI on the discount sale a few years ago. I immediately caught the bug and upgraded to a HH DJ that fall. I now have two WB Blackirds, several GT UL's and a WB Traveler. REI and the discount sale started it all!!!

I started with a HH too. I "upgraded" to a WBBB, I then upgraded back to a HH lol, I am glad I tried a wb( or 3) but in the end the HH has been the best for me. Not that I am done searching, that is fun!!
