blue ridge lake I've been told has a nice spot. a friend has a cabin on other side of lake but told me about this spot he calls Point5.

In the pic below (which is blue ridge lake) I think he said you can park around the area where the X is in lower left corner.

Will look for the map I have of Carters lake spot

    Boat-In - Hike-In Campground - Open Year-round
Campground Info: Boat-in/Hike-in camping provides 12 primitive campsites with tables, tent pads, lantern holders and trash cans. Campsites are free and available year-round on a first-come-first-serve basis. There are primitive toilets but no drinking water. Boaters can tie up near their site and enjoy a waterfront site in a beautiful setting. Campers can also hike to sites along a newly constructed Amadahy Trail that begins at the barricade on the Woodring Branch access road. Distance to the campground from the trail head is approximately two miles one way.

Location: The campground is located on a peninsula east of Carters Dam.

The reason I suggested Carter's Lake is due to its dam. When I research new spots to hike, I look at tax records in map form to ensure I don't end up tresspassing onto private land. Gilmer County tax records list the majority of the lake and it's shoreline as US Army Corps of Engineers property.

If you access the lake via Hap Holt Road, (north end) you should have a relatively human-free experience. I'll subscribe to this thread to keep an eye out for updates and post more when I come across it.

ShadowAlpha, let me know what you find... I'll bump it against the records.

Yeah sounds like a cool place, surprised its free. Now my only dilemma is when to go and what boat to bring - original plan was for the kayak but I have a 18' fish n ski that I could tie up out there too - I've never done that before though, I'd be a little worried about it drifting off or taking on too much water or something (although I have a float switch I just haven't got around to installing).
