    Left or Right?

Sorry if this has been answered before somewhere in the thousands and thousands of threads, but I couldn't find it. My question is:

When standing outside the hammock, looking at one side, is there a head side and a foot side? I guess this is specifically about HH hammocks (I have an ultralite zip). On a bottom-entry hammock you'd just keep your feet on the side of the entry, but on a zip, does it matter? And if it doesn't matter, which way do you all lie?

    Welcome aboard herrherron!

If you mean which end should you put your head, and which end your feet, then no, it doesn't matter on the HH zip models. I actually prefer to have the zip on my right, as I lie on my back, but I think I'm in the minority there.

If, on the other hand, you mean on which diagonal should you lie, then it matters a bit more. As far as I can see, all the "asym" models pretty much force you to lie on the diagonal which would put your left shoulder and your right foot to the edges of the hammock, as you lie on your back. In other words, your head should be to the left of the middle, and your feet to the right.

Really though, just try everything, and use what suits you, or HYOH as they say (hang your own hang/hammock)!

    All the best!

As ZQ mentioned. Hennessy designs it for the zipper to be on your right side as you lay in the hammock. It really doesn't matter so long as your shoulder is on a diagonal at one tie out and your knee at the other one.

Maybe I'm not in the minority...

Well, at least I know which way I'm supposed to lie in my Blackbird!

Actually one of the reasons I asked was because I was browsing around the 2QZQ site, and some mods have a left or right option that didn't seem to make sense otherwise. I've been putting the zipper on my right anyway. I've also been shopping for a new sleeping bag... and if I'm keeping my hammock zipper on my right side, in your (plural) experience does it make any difference at all if I choose a left or right zip bag? It seems like that (matching the hammock) may make more of a difference in convenience than whether I'm left or right handed.
Pure theory though, I'm totally new at this.

on the SB... if you take to the hammock... you may consider going the top quilt route instead.

most here use their bags unzipped to the knee, as a quilt with the 'opening' beneath them (insulation is compressed otherwise) -----until they convince themselves the hammock is right for their adventures. i know i did.

I'm not sure if I'm minority or not, but it feels more natural for me to lay head right and feet left, with zipper exit to my left. I believe if I had a Blackbird, I would be S.O.L. on that type of lay.

My BB is a reverse cut, feet left, head right. Not sure if Brandon makes them like that now. Could ask.

+1 on Quilt over Sleeping Bag

If you're looking to spend money on a bag definitely consider a quilt instead. They are so much easier to live with in a Hammock and work great on the ground too. If you're a hiker there's also the weight savings over a comparably rated bag and the comfort of not having a zipper dig on your rib cage or kneecap.
Getting back to the OP - quilts also eliminate the whole RH versus LH issue as well.

I've been hanging in a hammock for 3 whole weeks now and I tend to sleep left shoulder to right foot - okay - I usually side sleep on my left shoulder but that's because I tore up my right shoulder last year and I'm still more comfy on my left side - it's really what works for you.
