Volunteer recycler needed for Spring MAHHA

The attendance for the spring MAHHA looks outstanding. If weekend weather is beautiful I'm betting over 70 people attend!

That can make for a lot of pop cans and plastic bottles, and plastic utensils. Can someone set up up some large garbage bags with signs that say "plastic" and "cans" at the breakfast and Sat. Potluck and then take the bags to a recycler? You'll also need to make an announcement that we're recycling at the meals and ask people to participate.

    Thanks everyone!

I was bringing several contractor bags (4-5) already. I can hike those in if someone would drive them out. :-)

Great! Now need someone to mark them as recyling in any method you want and to take bags to recycling center.

    Thanks 2TallWV.

It's so strange to us Canadians that you have to look for a recycler ... In canada you put all of the recyclables in blue bins (provided) at the end of your driveway and the recycler comes to pick it up... In fact these contracts have become highly competitive.

Is there no residential recycling in PA?

There may be recycling in place Pa. I lost faith in my local garbage collection when I saw them take tge designated bins for recycling and throw them in the regular garbage on several accounts here in Wv. I dont understand why its not the law. (Sorry for the side bar)

Yes, we have recycling here in PA. We are supplied with a large container for glass, plastic, cans, newspaper, and cardboard. We put it out with the regular trash pickup every week. There is a separate truck that picks it up. I don't know if we would be allowed to put several large bags out all at once though. ZQ

Do WalMarts have recycling containers in PA. WalMarts have them here in Morgantown. That may be another easy place to drop off.

Most of the PA municipal recylcing centers I am familiar with take only #1 and #2 plastics along with aluminum and steel cans and various other typical recycled items. They want them clean for pest control reasons. Any other plastics are not acceptable. They need to sorted out by type. Soda cans separate from steel cans. Plastics can be mixed together.

Just a heads up for the sake of the cause.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Just a thought, why not run a work shop/event on making aluminum can alcohol camp stoves? The audience at such an event would gladly participate and it would put some of those cans to a fun use.
