How do you pack-up your hammock gear?

So far I have a WBBB and some woopie slings in the OEM bishop bag. Tarp, UQ and TQ should be on the way soon.

So I am thinking… how I will pack all this up for the trail.

Should I make or get a bigger bishop bag and stuff the hammock, UQ, and TQ all in one? Pros? Cons?

Should I pack each in it’s own stuff sack?

    How about snake skins?

How about getting rid of all the stuff sacks and just stuffing each one in the bottom of my cuben pack liner… TQ on bottom, UQ next, hammock on top of that, clothes bag on that, etc.; tarp stuffed in mesh pocket on back of Osprey Exos. Would the cuben pack liner and pack cover be enough to keep everything dry?

I am trying to keep things light and organized.

I now defer to the experts.

My cuban tarp is in mesh snake skins, then into the outside back pocket of my pack.
My WBBB is in Hennessy snake skins, and all that, whoopies, straps, all items Dutch (clips and buckles) all go into a Bishop bag.
The TQ and UQ and Pillow, all in their own stuff sacks. The WBBB, TQ, UQ and Pillow, all go into the bottom of my pack.
I see an advantage in that each is in their own sack, so can be deployed or not, mix and match. Stuffing into the pack, I would think would present a number of packing up issues.

Most likely will be a preference thing - what works for you. Try some of the mentioned options and see what jives with your style. I've tried them all but now have a sack for my cloths and food, leave my hammock in its bag and stuff my quilts at the bottom in a liner bag. I like this system so far as it allow me to fill my gaps in the main bag.

My tarp is in Snake skins too. In the front of my pack with tree straps.. The bottom to top of main pack in a trash compactor bag: UQ(no SS),TQ(No SS), clothes SS, Hammock with whoopies in bishop bag, food etc. I use slightly larger STuff sacks on clothes and Hammock so that theyre not like bricks and will fit to my bag better. I have an ENO Doublenest and bugnet inside #4 Snakeskins, then stuffed inside a dry bag. Once I get to the site I use the skins to keep it off the ground. Plan on a tarp soon, those will go inside the ever-sought after #2 skins.

I have made a custom bishop bag that allows me to keep underquilt attached, top quilt in the hammock, and the whole thing stuffs in the bag. I have compression straps attached so the whole thing shrinks down to a manageable size. When I get to camp, if I don't need a tarp, total set up is done in under a minute...once trees have been selected.

I made a video of how I pack all of the gear in my pack. Perhaps you will find it helpful.

    Hope that helps!

I like keeping everything individually wrapped. It makes packing my backpack more efficientl this way. When items get too big and bulky, they comsume my pack more. Tarp and hammock are each in their own snakeskins. TQ and UG each in their own compresion sacks. They pack down smaller and can go in between the cervices.

Since you have an Osprey Exos, I'm guessing Ultra-lite is important to you. In that case, I would stuff everything in cuben pack liner as you described. Tarp on the outside in the mesh pocket, to keep wet stuff away from dry stuff. That's MY vote anyway!

My HH Hex tarp has it's own skins. My HH Explorer Deluxe and the HHSS undercover both go in another set of skins as well. The HHSS pad and topcover go in the bishop bag that came with the pad. Sleeping bag and poncho liner float inside the compactor bag I use as a bag liner on the bottom of my pack.

Using 2 sets of skins gives a lot more versatility for me. If the weather is nice, I still put my tarp up but don't pull it out of the skins. If the weather is lousy and I need to make space for a few other friends to huddle out of the weather under my tarp, I just pull the HHSS and sleeping bag out of my hammock, put them in my pack, and skin the hammock up so that there's room to sit and move around for a couple of folks.

And as I learned on my last trip...giving each their own skins keeps my hammock dry when packing out my soaking wet tarp.
