    Condensation on pad

I am new to hammocks and am having trouble with condensation building up between my pad and sleeping bag: this is soaking my bag by morning. I am using the Hennessy pad sold on the site (it looks like a Mylar space blanket had a kid with a bubble FedEx shipping package.) Is it: the pad, my old sleeping bag (20 year old low-end North face +30 deg), or me? *Any suggestions are welcome or if someone could point me towards an existing thread I would appreciate it.*

Pads cannot breath, therefore you do not have airflow to keep the condensation from building up. There is really no way around it other than getting a underquilt! Or putting something else in between your sleeping bag and the pad.

Jacob speaks the truth. However there is a way to avoid it. Just like VBL, one must be cognizant of their temp. If you are too warmn your body will perspire and condensation results. Regulating temp appropriately is the name of the game for VBLs and pads.

+1 on whats been said above.

The best way of not getting your bag damp is to not get in it, but use it as a top quilt instead.

Your bag will stay dry using it as a quilt.

When I used a pad and synthetic sleeping bag, I got condensation. I just considered it the nature of the beast. The synthetic 0* sleeping bag performed fine down to 22 degrees, even it was damp with condensation.

Now that I have an underquilt, there's no more condensation. However, I still plan on using a pad in warm weather 'cause I can't justify buying a summer underquilt. So me and condensation will continue to share my hammock, unfortunately.

I use to use a wallyworld waffle pattened blue foam pad and never had a condesation issue. I believe its waffle pattern allows some air flow. Either that or I have ben lucky so far. These days I use UQ's

I used a blue CCF pad with a Blockade sun reflector on top, shiny side up. I laid directly on the reflector with mummy bag as a top quilt. Overnight temps were mid 30s, and I had no condensation on the pad in the morning. Like others said, it seems like using the bag as a quilt allows for better airflow.

You will find that not much is required of a summer UQ. Good for many degrees is just stopping the hammock bottom from acting as a broad evaporative cooling pad. Just cover the hammock bottom with a loose layer which does not touch and wick and you are much the way there.

Maybe archives here refer to a UQ consisting of a single nylon layer and a lightweight grid spacing material (I've seen but can't find in outdoor gear making catalogs)
