What to do with gear in a storm?

My pack goes on a piece of tyvek underneath my hammock with everything that I am not using inside my pack liner with the pack cover on the pack. Ill also take my camp shoes and place the edge of my tyvek cloth over my camp shoes creating a gap for the water to run under the tyvek instead of over.

I use to put my pack under me on a piece of Tyvek too. But just recently on recommendation from Muttly I picked up one of those 4 buck pack covers from Walmart. And strung it up as a gear hammock with some zing it on the same 2 trees then ran an extra line out from it to pull it away from my hammock so it wouldn't be up against my insulation. It rained a lot in the Gorge a couple of weeks ago, my hammock & all my gear were high & dry!

Whatever you do, just make sure you keep your boots dry. Somehow on a recent trip one of my boots was positioned perfectly to gather water coming off my tarp. Guess what? A waterproof boot holds water as well as it keeps it out.

Lately I've had to resort to putting my pack up on some rocks or pieces of firewood to get it up out of the standing water. I typically cover it with a rain jacket then toss my clothes bag, food bag, etc. in under the jacket. We've just been magnets for torrential storms of late, last month I saw a fancy feast stove float out from under Lukesteg's tarp and he was on the high ground.

Even with a winter tarp and doors I've had lots of mud spattered gear and splash up on my UQ but it all seems to work out okay.

I've taken to carrying two trash bags. If it's dry, I use them spread flat to put my gear out on under the tarp. When it's wet, my pack and other gear go inside of one bag to keep out ground water. The other bag gets pulled over the top to keep out the rain.

I knew there was a reason I had to pick up one of those WW pack covers

I would just pull the pack into the hammock with me. Ultralight packs tend to be smallish and lightweight.
