    bridge style spreader bars?

i wanted to make some aluminum spreader bars for a bridge style hammock. and the only thing Ive seen today are 1) flag poles that mate together and 2) the rainfly pole set for a Eureka Timberline tent. Flag poles come in sections of varying lengths, the Eureka tent has 21" sections that mate together similar to the poles on a JrB Bridge hammock. All I need is aluminum, thin walled poles that mate in that fashion. Has anyone an idea where to find them?

You can order tent pole sections from Quest. I am not sure if they are strong enough for your purposes.

Another option would be the tubing from Texas Towers. The wall thickness of the tubing is such that any size will slide into the next bigger size with a fairly tight fit. You could simply rivet a short connector piece into the end of a tube to get the tubes to mate like you want.

For Sale- Parachute. Only used once, never opened, small stain.
Hanging in the sky @ night = sleep
Tent on ground @ night = backache

I've been using the 0.625" diameter ones (items #4060 and #4061) and they work well. Schochem tried the next size smaller and saw some flexing he didn't much care for.

Another option would be the tubing from Texas Towers.
for some reason the name of this company reminds me of a song by the Doors (the WASP : Texas Radio and the Big Beat).

all good ideas, fellas. I went with the quest poles and I didnt know that they came in .625 (5/8") so thanks for that link.
otherwise, I found some Swiffer broom poles that looked good. Crutches look ok too.

the most important requirement for me was being able to mate 2 short sections together to make the length I needed, but without toting around a couple of 32" sections of pipe. There is also just straight EMT made from aluminum as well. on another note, I found the welded steel rings at Ace Hardware for $0.59 each. Rated 200# but I think the rating is about 1/3 of actual strength. I might post a step-by-step on the DIY bridge in the style Ive chosen, a single layer fabric, ring and spreader bar style with SMC ring supports on a tree hugger type webbing. So far on paper, Ive found I can make the hammock body fairly shallow (width wise) and that provides minimal shoulder squeeze. I think Grizz has an excellent bridge and I want to make one too!!

I used the Swiffer handles The 3/4 piece size is nice. Will be interested in the result with the Quest poles, especially how you do the ends.

    (4) sections of 3/4 or 1/2 copper pipe 18" in length. (2) 1/2 or 3/4 couplers to join the pipe will make what you desire.
