    Rainy Day = New Tarp

A rainy day today inspired me to make a tarp I had in mind. The idea was a small tarp to be used mostly as a sun shade and to trap as little heat as possible while hanging on the deck. I had decided on a 10' x 5' to be used in a diamond mode.

I found a piece of 1.1 silnylon 2nds I had that was 66" wide. The reinforcements are 200d silnylon. All materials came from D.I.Y. Gear Supply.

The finished tarp turned out to be 122"x65" (slightly larger than an OES MacCat Micro) with shallow cat cuts. It's a bit on the heavy side at 10.6 oz. That's what I get for using the 200d, 3/4" nylon and triangle tie outs instead of lighter materials. Overall, I'm happy with the results.

Set up as diamond and rectangle...

That's a pretty good idea. How did it work in the rain?

I like the look of that little bad boy! Seems like a great DIY to put together.

WHAT?.....you think I'd go out in the rain to put up a tarp?

Actually, it quit raining by the time I finished it. It's a pretty minimal size. I expect it to do OK in a light to moderate straight down rain, but it won't be the one I'd take to the woods if I was expecting much of a storm.

Nice setup is that a turtle lady design on the stand? I really like the idea of the smaller tarp for warm nights.

Yeah, it's another "turtle lady" that's in her thread as well. It's nice to have a test stand that lets me use my normal suspension and tarps. Otherwise I'd have to walk all the way across the yard to get to the trees.

I'm just a lil jealous. While I'm stuck at Cummins looking down the A-holes of engines you are at home making gear. Wanna trade?

haha I'm with you. I can walk out to the woods on the back of my property - but like your setup. I've been thinking of how I can hang closer to house/on or by the deck. Thx for the visual
