Exped Ergo Hammock Review

Thats a very good in depth review. I agree that the hammock needs to be lengthened for anyone over 6 ft. I also found it very hard to zip up the bug net while in the hammock. Did you see any signs of the fabric pulling apart from the stiches above your head to the left while laying in the hammock. I was scary to watch the holes form in the fabric in only the two short times I layed in it.

Not the hammock for me like I was hoping, so the JRB stays around until I can get my hands on a bridge from Brandon!!

I think I mentioned in the video that it seemed like a lot of stress was being placed on the seams and the zippers. I struggled with the zipper on the bug net quite a bit. I definitely didn't exceed the weight rating of the hammock. And while I didn't notice any tearing or holes, the stitch holes were definitely stressed.

Really good review. I liked how honest your were about what you thought of the hammock. It looks like top quality materials and construction. But as a big guy myself (6'2" 225LBS) I can see that this would be a bad fit for my body size.

Thanks for the review and first demo. Being a bit shorter I would likely be a better fit for this hammock.

Do you think this system will permit the tarp to be pitched first ? And the hammock suspended second under the cover of the tarp when it is raining.

I watched your video of the unboxing and the stuff sack had hammock, button cords, tarp. I also watched the ExpedLLC video showing how this system is pitched. In their video the stuff sack had the button hole cord on top, hammock and the tarp in the bottom of the stuff sack. Just a little different from what you found right out of the box. They also showed the tarp being pitched last. But must it be pitched last?

Now putting the tarp up last is ok in good weather. But when it is raining I prefer to pitch the tarp first so I can then suspend the hammock while I am under the tarp and the hammock doesn't get wet inside.

Oh, and a second question. Is there any provision to have a shock cords to the ground to dampen the swing of the hammock? Similar to what is on the WBB or Hennesey hammocks.

Now some folks say the like the swinging of the hammock but I do not. I like the swinging to dampen away pretty quickly. I watched the fourdogstoveco video and the hammock, that I think is a pre-production model, seems to swing a lot and I did not get the impression the swinging would dampen out very quickly. Perhaps it appeared to swing longer in the video that it does in actual use.

Last thoughts. The way the sides come up so high I would think it may be warm when it is cold but perhaps the high sides will block the breeze when camping in it in warmer weather and it would be too hot. The button hole cords looks rather narrow. Did you notice any tree damage from not using wider tree straps?

Anyway, this hammock certainly is a new concept and a lot of the small details seem very well thought out.

Great review. Honest and direct to the point. I was thinking about trying one of these but being 6'1" myself it appears that it would be too short. Thanks for the reveiw.
