Hello and welcome from Brantford, ON.
Hi 9am53 and welcome. I drove past Napanee last week, coming back from Ottawa.

Welcome to HF from the Show Me state.
Hi to all! I've enjoyed reading everybody's posts for the past week while I figured out what to click on to post my introduction (I'm not nearly as computer literate as my kids! )
I'm not really new to hammocking (spent many summers - and some colder seasons - sleeping in homemade hammocks as a kid in northern BC) but recently sewed my first gathered-end ripstop hammock (thanks to Bluenose Climbers for the material - infinitely lighter / more portable than my past hammocks!
After doing some hanging tests with the material just tied in various configurations, I ended up sewing a longer and wider hammock than what our Venturers use - having tried a night at camp in a 12' loaned hammock, it didn't take long to figure out that my 30 lb toddler, who camps with me, would permanently sleep ON me unless I built a wider hammock ...
Since my toddler likes to get out of the hammock and boldly explore the woods (not to mention any available water) in the middle of the night, I'll probably end up putting a "weather shield" type cover on so that it will take him long enough to get out (and make enough noise) to wake me up first! (Bug nets don't hold him long - we already know that from tents! )
At his age, he sometimes goes "on strike" during hikes when he's tired, so I spent part of Easter weekend modifying my backpack so that it has a seat for him on my back - essentially between the pack and the frame. This works very well in our yard tests - I'll be putting it to a "real life" test next weekend in a hike with the Scouts. Meanwhile, my toddler (always carried around on my back since birth) loves it and was very intrigued with the idea!

Hello from Victoria on Vancouver Island,
I'm new to hammock camping but very excited about hanging instead of lying on the cold, hard, uncomfortable, pain inducing, sleep depriving, wet, soggy, rocky, root bound ground.
