Imperfect tree spacing preference

I am only 6' 1", but have learned to take long strides as a kid trying to keep up with my older brothers. Each step is almost exactly a yard therefore each pace is about 6 feet. I usually look for trees about 5 steps or 2.5 paces.

Assuming that my tarp fits, I prefer closer trees. I have a twelve-foot-long tarp, so I always have some space at the end of the hammock to adjust if the tarp fits.

That makes more sense....I always thought of a "pace" as being one step and I couldn't figure out how you could take a 6' step.

Me too, I always count one step (approx 3') as a pace. I look for trees that are 4 - 5 paces (12' - 15') apart to hang my BB. That distance lets me hang my huggers at a comfortable height.

Well if you are talking about a standard 5 ft. pace, I find 12.5 feet just a little tight for hammock, whoopies, and huggers. So I would need to go with the A-B option (20 feet).

When I pace, I usually am closer to 6 feet. 15 feet is the perfect distance I look for, so that would be C-D.

How's that for taking a firm stance?

Tough to take a firm stance with all that pacing about.

Not trying to hijack the thread but a little help on standard setup would be great.
Im roughly 6' and have a WBBB with tree huggers and 6ft whoopies, how high should I put the tree huggers and how far apart are the 'ideal' standard trees?

As far apart as they need to be for you to comfortably hang your tarp.

Shorter than that simply doesn't work.
Longer means more suspension, therefore more stretch. And speaking of stretch, you'll need to stretch to hang your suspension high up on the trees.

Yea, like the others have said, my hammock would fit between C & D, but my tarp requires A & B.
Well, not strictly true, at 14' minimum to hang my tarp, it would likely take A to D to fit the tarp. that is, my minimum distance is 4 of my paces if using the tarp, & I ALWAYS set up so I can deploy the tarp.
And, my hammock takes about 3 paces, so,,,,,,

My paces always seem to be off by just a bit. I've found my outstretched arms holding my hiking poles is almost exactly 14'. Too short is a problem so long as I can stand between the trees and not touch I should be good with my current tarp/hammock setup.

This comes in really handy when I'm actually hanging from huge branches and not the trunk of a tree (huge oak hammocks or between an oak limb and a cabbage palm). It's nice just being able to reach up and instantly know I've got the right distance.

In answer to your original question....I'd probably just walk a few paces in any direction and look for E & F. There's a lot more to a place to hang than tree spacing though so the direction, shelter from the wind (or lack thereof) proximity to other campers or obstacles, etc. My advice probably means squat though. I always have some really great setup in my mind then once everything is set up I'm asking myself "now why did I do that". By that point though I'm too tired or it's getting too dark to move my tarp/hammock.
