    Cantilevered pull-outs

I'm sure someone is already doing this since so many folks set up in "porch mode", but did I come up with a mildly original idea?? 6 stakes, 2 poles and lots of cord. The pullouts actually go up and out if I max out my hiking poles.

Those of you who have already tried this...how did you like it. How about stability in high wind since I don't have any shock cords or self tensioners.

This seems a good way to use a minimum of stakes and still have the sides pull out as far as possible. Maybe setting up just a little closer to the ground would be good too in order to block even more wind.

This is a pretty standard set up for me. I really like the way this makes more room under the tarp, which is great when hanging tandem. The dew won't cause the tarp to sag against me in the mornings either. It does pretty well for me in windy conditions, although I'm not sure what you consider high winds.

The only thing I've noticed as a downside is that sometimes the clove hitch will slide down the pole loosening the tension. This is a direct result of my particular trekking poles which don't have cushy grips.

I also use two side pullouts to a single pole down to a stake.
