How hot is it at night...

We in central Florida don't get below 21.1 C (70 F) from mid-May until late September or early October every year. Humidity now (about 5 a.m.) is 78% and temp is 26.6 C (80 F). Hot and muggy.

I've always speculated that without AC, there wouldn't be any huge metro areas in the south... it would be too dang hot for people to want to live here.

I grew up next to the biggest AC in the United States. It was called "Lake Superior." I don't recall a day growing up when it was over 85*.

FishinFinn, at least you had some 60's night time last weekend hanging along the big Lake. It has been a bit cool at night until recently.
The natural AC just kicked in up here. Temp dropped from warm (80F), dry (RH=50%) to a cool 68F in ~1hr. Cold front/wind & bit of rain.

Oh yeah, it's about 90° F (32°C) here and rainy. That tropical storm just came through here.

I got kinda cold the last time I hammocked outside two weekends ago here in Iowa. I started off rather warm in my 45* bag, so I had it completely unzipped and open. I woke up around 2:30 feeling rather cold, so I zipped up the bag and slept the rest of the night. I almost put on a light jacket as well, but was too lazy to do anything more than zip up the bag.

How do you guys handle the 10 to 12 degree temperature drops that occur between 10:00pm and 4:30?

In the three seasons here where that matters I do what you did. I pull the bag farther up until it's all the way up, then zip up if it gets even colder. My big rectangular BA Mystic has a full length zipper, and you can go from about 60° wide open to about 20° fully shut that way without doing anything else.

I am, fortunately, a warm sleeper. I can get away with my kifaru woobie on top, and and my HH asym with the underpad underneath. I was out last weekend, and it dropped into the mid 40s overnight...admittedly, I got a little chilly. But, overall, it wasnt too bad. I do keep a knit cap with me though, and, I will put it on when I feel cold. But, normally, it isnt too bad.
