    Integrated bug netting

I want to diy a hammock and have decided to go with a sewn in bug netting. I get how to do this, except for one thing. Where the netting meets the ends of the hammock. What do you do here? I know the ridgeline has to go through somehow. Do you leave this part of the hammock unsewn and just whip the netting and fabric together? I'm making kind of a Blackbird type hammock, except without the footbox and shelf. If anyone has pictures, that would be great too.

That's what I've done. I unwhipped the hammock and sewed the netting all the way to the end, and then re-whipped the hammock.

Think about the shape that you want the hammock to take. The bugnet is going to dictate the shape once you've sewn it on. For instance, if you want a diagonal lay in one direction, then cut the netting asymmetrical such that it comes to a point on one side where your head will be and at the foot on the other side.

Remember that the length of the netting down the centerline must match the length of your ridgeline. But, the length along the cut edge of the netting must match the length of the side of your hammock.

If you choose to have a zipper on only one side, sew the zippered side first. Then sew the non-zippered side last.

Thanks Mike. I'm going to make a hammock similar to the one found here.
    http://www.blackgoatgear.com/2011/04...k-pattern.html

I'm using the DIY Gear Supply 1.5oz nylon, in only one layer. This stuff has a nice feel to it. For the "wings", I'm using 1.1oz in a contrasting color, to save a little weight. I think I'm gonna do a zipper on both sides, similar to a switchback, and using a couple loops of shock cord larksheaded to the ridgeline. To the shock cord loops, I'll tie on a toggle to tie the netting up. I'll post pics after I complete the project.
